The subject introduces the students to the devices and building blocks of optical telecommunication networks. The aim of the course is to describe the properties of the applied devices, to teach them the sizing at the system engineering level, to acquaint the measurement technology guidelines and solutions, as well as the modern communication application possibilities. It provides an overview of the structure, operation, and telecommunication-relevant characteristics of passive and active elements used in optical transmission systems.
