Objective:
In this course, students will become acquainted with (i) the problems, methods, and tools for designing and developing equipment and software for large-scale service provider networks; (ii) the practicalities and generally applicable methods of designing and implementing such high-reliability equipment and software.

Short topics
Structure of carrier-grade telecommunications systems, general purpose hardware platforms (ATCA) and software components, embedded system hardware and software issues, building and functional components (processors, multimedia accelerator, ARM9-based mobile application processor, Intel PXA family, flash memory, TPM). General and special aspects and methods of designing and carrying out large-scale infocommunication projects, the process of project management, the principles and tools of project and multi-project management. Problems, methods and tools of design and development of telecommunication equipment and software: requirement analysis, design, testing; software testing and development process certification, tools; overload control. Typical middleware platforms for network application software are Webservice (SOAP / WSDL / UDDI), CORBA, RMI, and their quality issues. Network application server platforms: Implementation of Parlay NGOSS (Next Generation Operation Support System) and eTOM (enhanced. Telecom operations Map). Integration of components of operational support systems in telecommunication systems (GGSN, IMS). Demonstration of the test methods and solutions used in practice by telecommunications equipment manufacturers through a description of the methods used by an international telecommunications manufacturer.
