Vill MSc Okos város mellékspecializáció (2015-től)

What is it about?

What do we mean by "smart city"? What makes a city smart? Mostly from the intelligent environment around us, and from location-based, context-sensitive and personalized applications and services. About the shop windows that recognize customers, the vehicles talking to each other, or the tourist information that appears on the lens of our glasses, you could only read in sci-fi novels a few years ago, but today it’s all a reality!

Why choose?

The Smart City minor specialization is a great addition to several major specializations!

• If you deal with embedded systems

Also learn how to integrate different sensors into the complex architecture of a smart city, how to network and operate them efficiently!

• If you are interested in software development

Find out what applications will be needed in the cities of the future, what system of requirements they will have to meet, what new communication interfaces they will need to support!

• If you are interested in mobile and wireless networks

Learn about the communication requirements of high-speed vehicle networks or a scarce sensor network.

• If you deal with electricity systems

Learn how smart grid and smart metering systems relate to the rest of smart cities!

The smart cities of the future are now being built and there is a great need for engineers who are experts in this field. We want to train such experts!

Specialized subjects

• Sensor networks and applications, (vitmma09), TMIT

The “intelligence” of smart environments (cities, workplaces, homes) is largely due to the fact that it is embedded in different walls, roadways, or integrated into users ’smart devices and ...

Specialization laboratory

• Smart City Laboratory, (vitmmb04), TMIT

The objective of this subject is to introduce representative elements of the hardware and software building blocks which support smart-city-concept and the usage of these elements to plan and fulfill ...

Recommended additional subjects

• Data analysis platforms

In smart cities, tons of sensors, vehicles, and users generate huge amounts of data that need to be filtered, processed, and analyzed, preferably in real time. “Big Data” is one of the most important areas of research and development today. In this subject, we present the conceptual background of data mining, machine learning, and data analysis, data mining solutions using different visual programming methodologies, and pay special attention to the presentation of the Hadoop platform.

• Infocommunication in smart grid networks

One of the key features of smart cities is energy awareness. Based on the information gathered about the dynamically changing needs and usage habits of consumers locally and over time, Smart Grid networks are able to automatically increase the efficiency, reliability and economy of the electricity network.

Independent laboratory / TDK / Diploma design

If you prefer, you can also choose a stand-alone lab and thesis topic related to Smart City, regardless of the topic of your major specialization and the host department. Here are some possible topics:

Networks: Sensor networks, vehicle networks, Internet of Things, 5G networks, WiFi offloading.

Applications and services: RFID, NFC, ubiquitous intelligence, mobile application development (Android), outdoor and indoor positioning, navigation, location-based and context-sensitive services, crowdsourcing and crowdsensing applications, gamification mechanisms.

Security and reliability: Network security, service security, data security, reliability, privacy.

Speech and media technologies, data mining: Speech processing, synthesis, recognition; graphical interface design, Augmented Reality applications, gesture recognition and gesture control; data and text mining, big data.
